This paints a possible picture: James & Christina md abt 1872; 1st child b. 1873 in NS; James emigrates to US in 1880, leaving Tena behind w/2 or 3 children, to find a place for them to live, then he sends for the family in 1880. Beautiful!
You need to search the 1851 census of NS for BLAIKIE families. Only the head of the house will appear by name, but it will provide clues for you. The 1871 census is the 1st one that gives the names of everyone in the home. Maybe that would be the best one to start with. I can easily do this for you.
