Nancy - Thanks for your prompt reply.I learned about Thomas, being born in NY or PA from a book I found in the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Library, last fall, about the Moore Family.I'm not sure if the person who wrote this book really knew too much about Thomas, tho.It was said that he was a brother of James G. BLAINE, who ran for president, that he didn't want to be in politics, but wanted to be a pioneer and go to Ohio. This, according to Thomas, caused a family crisis and a falling out and he dropped the "e" from his name. This may/may not be true.It said he had a son, Jeff, and one named Billy by his 1st wife, Phebe.Jeff, wasn't in census, and may have been a middle name of one of his other sons by her. This writer didn't know anything about the other children, some of whom must have married in the area. Billy, was William Denman, my gg grandfather, b 1842, in/near Chesterville, Knox Co. OH., who married Sarah Jane McKNIGHT, in Scott Co. IA, 1865.The book mentioned that he married Sarah, and mention of their daughter, Emma, [Mary Emma], and her husband, Frank, [Benjamin Franklin] CONNETT, which was true. They were my g grandparents.
The area of OH, where Thomas, and his family, lived was formally Knox Co. but in 1848 Morrow Co. was formed from Knox, Marion, Delaware, and Richland counties.
For about 10 years I've been looking for proof that Thomas, was related to James G. BLAINE, to no avail. At this point I really don't think that he was, even thought my grandfather, John William CONNETT, told that same story, adding in Daniel BOONE, too. ;^) I wonder how many little kids heard that same story.Since the book mentioned NY and PA, it seems that this must have come down from his daughter, Olive, or her brother, Milton, children of his 2nd marriage to Dolly. The book deals with Olive's descendants and her husband's family, the FROSTs. Also their mother Dolly's 1st husband, Henry FICKLE, their children and descendants.Included, were Dolly's step children by her 3rd husband, Ambrose MAYFIELD, who also died, her step children by Mr. MINOR, her 4th husband, whom she divorced and lastly, Milton's descendants.Whew!
I would be happy to send you a genealogy report from my Family Tree Maker database, for Thomas, just ask...
Sue
