Thanks for replying. You're right, your Charles isn't the one I'm looking for, but he was related to the family of Lord William Blakeney and his siblings. If you go back a few generations, you'll find that the families in County Limerick (Mount Blakeney branch) and Galway (Castle Blakeney branch) both descend from Thomas Blakeney and Sarah Hatton.
Here is info on thepeerage.com, starting with your Charles, and you can trace back through the generations from there. This info is taken directly from Burke's Irish Records, so it is pretty reliable:
It does appear that he lived in several places. He may or may not have actually lived at Castle Blakeney, but it seems that's where earlier generations of his family were from.
That branch of the family probably had connections to Roscommon as well.
As for your other post with info on William Blakeney and Elizabeth Bowerman, beware of info picked up from other family trees on the internet. There is also confusion about the various Williams, Johns, Charleses, etc., as well as distinctions between the Mt. Blakeney branch and Castle Blakeney branch:
>>son of Wm Blakeney b Gallagh Dec 1676-d 1763 m1700 Eliz >>Bowerman b Holywell Rosc Mar 1679-d Mt B Apr 1748
>>son Thos b Gallagh 1645 d 1733 Dublin m 1653 Sarah >>Hatton at Tobervaddy
William Blakeney and Elizabeth Bowerman were the parents of Lord William and siblings, but your info isn't quite accurate. William (the father) was born in Mt. Blakeney in County Limerick (and died in 1718), and Elizabeth's family was from County Cork. The dates you have are too late for them. Lord William, their oldest child, was born in 1672 (that date is confirmed), so they would have to have been born sometime around 1650 or earlier. Elizabeth did have other known siblings, including a brother Henry (same name as her father) who was born in 1660, and another brother Edward, born about 1662, and educated at Oxford.
Also, the info about Thomas Blakeney and Sarah Hatton is much too late. The parish register for Thomas's birth apparently still exists. He was born in Stanhow, Norfolk, England. The family had long connections to Norfolk. He was baptized on Dec. 6, 1584. He was the son of Lancelot Blakeney and Grisell Cantrell.
thepeerage.com does have some good info, and since it comes from Burke's, it should be pretty reliable (although not foolproof). If you haven't been there yet, try clicking around a bit.
Long story short, you are distantly related to the family in South Carolina. Yes, that is quite a coincidence. They were mostly in the Chesterfield County area. I'd be happy to send you more info about that branch of the family, or earlier generations. Where are you currently located in SC?
