Capt. John Blakeney Newsletter now online

For anyone who is descended from Capt. John Blakeney (1732-1832), who was born in Ireland and eventually settled in what is now Chesterfield County, SC, I would like to let you know that I have started a quarterly newsletter that is focused on researching his life, as well as his descendants, related families, and possible ancestors.

While the first issue mainly contains my own research, my hope is that many other researchers will be interested in contributing their own information and questions about this family.

The newsletter is in PDF format, and you can download it for free at

If anyone is interested in contributing their own research to the newsletter, please read it throughly to get a feel for the kind of information we may be interested in. Since there is so much inaccurate information out there, spread mainly through the internet, I strongly encourage you to include sources with your contributions. If you've found unsourced information on someone's online family tree, that's probably not what we're looking for. If, however, you have found something interesting in an old book, document, family Bible, etc., then please share it with us.

My goal in starting this newsletter is to create a central resource, and archive, where researchers can share information and connect with each other in order to piece together as much of this history as we can, and hopefully find new paths to research as well. Our primary goal, of course, is to find documentation showing us exactly who Capt. John Blakeney's parents were, so perhaps if we all combine our efforts, we can start to make progress in that area as well.

Thank you,
John Hester
