This is very interesting! A deed is mentioned in "The Blakeneys in America", published in 1928, where Capt. John Blakeney deeded land to the Methodist Church. According to the book, that deed was dated Oct. 15, 1830, and was for five acres. On that deed, the trustees named were Hugh Blakeney, David Freeman, David Laney, Cornelius Holloman and Archibald Laney. It sounds like there is a second deed leaving land to the Methodist Church, which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere before. You may have uncovered a bit of Blakeney family info that no one knew about!!!

From every bit of info I've seen, Capt. John died in 1832 (The Blakeneys in America states August 8, 1832).

My first thought is that once his father died, Capt. John's son, John Jr., was then referred to as John Blakeney, Sr., since he had his own son named John. It's possible that he then continued his father's interest in the church and donated more land. Of course, it's also possible that his accepted death date is wrong, although considering the fact that a record exists showing his presence in Granville County, NC in 1753, he would probably have been well over 100 years old by 1836.

Would it be possible for you to send me a copy of the deed, either by email or regular mail (I'd cover costs,of course). If so, please let me know.

Thank you for contacting me about this.

John
