Charlotte Bland Potter
PLANO, TX - Charlotte Bland Potter, age 70, died Tuesday, September 1, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Rogers, Arkansas on July 31st, 1939, to Audrey Evans Bland and Stanley Estes Bland, who preceded her in death. Her life was lived, from childhood through her adult years, in a number of different states: Arkansas, Oklahoma, California, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Indiana, as well as in Louisiana and Texas, the two states in which she spent the greatest number of years. She combined her junior and senior years of high school into one, and graduated from Rogers High School in 1956. She then attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for two years, where she met her husband, Max E. Potter. They were married July 15th, 1958, and Charlotte devoted herself exclusively to being a wonderful wife and mother for the next fifteen years. She then resumed her education and received both bachelor's and master's degrees, graduating summa cum laude from LSU-Shreveport. For many years she was a beloved and honored fourth-grade teacher at Summer Grove Elementary in Shreveport. She retired to Kerrville, Texas, in 1997 and became an award-winning photographer, active member of AAUW, and an enthusiastic quilter. Charlotte loved traveling and enjoyed seeing all 48 contiguous states, plus many areas of Canada. She also had a passion for Native American art and culture. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Max Potter; daughter Sharon Hudak of Plano, Texas; son Mark Potter of Bentonville, Arkansas; sister Connie Allen of Edmond, Oklahoma; and grandchildren Greg Hudak and Alyssa, Brittany, and Justin Potter. A memorial service is planned for 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 19th, 2009, at Bland Chapel United Methodist Church, followed by interment of ashes at Bland Cemetery in Rogers, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Kerrville AAUW Scholarship Fund, care of Anita Crane, 583 Indian Lake Drive, Kerrville, TX 78028.
