Is a Blaettner a Blattner?

My father came to America in the 1960's from Hamburg, Germany. Upon entry, the name Blattner was changed to Blaettner. I'm sure that there has to be some relation, no matter how slight. This is what I know...

My father, Harald Edmund Blaettner was born of Edmund and Margot Blaettner (nee Fedderson). Edmund had two siblings, a sister who died before I was born, and Karl Heinz. Their parents were Clara and Heinrich Blattner.

Any clues? This is fascinating, but aggrivating!
