Thomas Lawrence Blevins, 81, of Konnarock, VA, passed away
Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Smyth County Community
Hospital, in Marion, VA.
Born July 14, 1930, he was a life long resident of
Washington Co VA, and was a son of the late Ulysses and
Katherine McDaniel Blevins.
Mr. Blevins was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving
as Sgt. Airman 1st Class during the Korean Conflict. He
was a member of Azen Baptist Church, where he has served
as a deacon.
He retired from Brunswick Corporation.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jessie C.
Blevins; one daughter, Greta L. Powers and husband Kelly,
of Damascus, VA; one son, Gary L. Blevins and his wife
Sue, of Konnarock, VA; one sister, Nannie Hash and her
husband Bill, of Nokesville, VA; two brothers, Ira Blevins
and his wife Shelby, of Konnarock, VA, and Archie 'Ed'
Blevins and his wife Betty, of Marion, VA; five grand-
children, Brandy, Kelly Jr., Stacey, Karla, and Tyler;
five great grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas, Nick, Courtney,
and Nate; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.,
Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Garrett Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday,
October 14, 2011, in the Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock,
VA, with Pastor Johnny Osborne, Bro. Ronnie Blevins and
Bro. Bob Steele officiating.
The committal service and interment will follow at Azen
Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by
Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National
Guard Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Tyler Blevins, Joe
Riffey, Tim Boehme, Aaron Trent, Andy Blevins, Scott
Blevins, Jim Blevins, and Robert Blevins. Honorary
pallbearers will be Ben Hayes, Warner Gifford, Grayson
Blevins, Herb Blevins, Bob Boone, Jerry Boone, and D. I.
Blevins.
