Renay, Do not know if it is of any help, my husband's maternal grandmother is a Boakes. She was born and raised in South London marrying Thomas Alfred Boakes also a Londoner. I have it on good authority that the family originated from a small village in Scotland called Boake, it is apparently near Kirkolm and although I live in the Midlands I do not know if the village is on the East or West coast of Scotland, logically with so many families living in the Lake District it would appear the village is on the West Coast of Scotland but will try and find out more info for you. Our own branch of the family can be traced back to the village as far back as 1435 eventhough the spelling has changed so what. For general information the Lake District is a very beautiful part of the country and is just as the area is discribed, full of Lakes. The population almost trebles during the summer months with tourists but during the winter apart from pockets of industry you could almost close it down!! Good hunting
