BOAKE, Alfred Hogarth, Vic, Australia

Hi folks,
For a history of the men of my local area who went to the South African War 1899-1902, I am seeking some biographical information and a photo of (prefereably in uniform) of Alfred Hogarth Boake. His attestation papers show that he was born 31 Oct 1867, a traveller by occupation, residing at 13 Kent Ave, Ascot Vale, Vic. His next of kin was his brother, E W Boake, c/- Bank of Australasia, Sydney.

He was apparently not born in Australia, but he died in Eltham, Vic in 1940. The death index records his parents names as Boncroft Boake and Agnes Marsh, and he was aged 74.
He served in South Africa with the 5th Victorian Mounted Rifles.

Can anyone help? By the way, I am not related to this man.

With thanks

Lenore Frost, Essendon, Vic
