Dear Glennis, Have just gotten into an envelope my aunt gave me many years ago, with some information from the "English" family of Francis Boake Carter, and there is a fairly complete tree.
I am descended from Dr. Francis Carter, son of Dr. Francis Boake Carter's first marriage. Francis, his brother William, his mother (Abigail) and his sisters came to America after Francis Boake Carter's second marriage to Mary. All lived originally in Dublin. The Boakes were Quakers, the Carters Anglicans. I do have a lot more on all of this and a number of old papers, but am in the midst of trying to get our house ready to put up for sale and will not be able to get things organized for you for a while. I do have some old photographs, and there are two little ones of Mary in the envelope I opened this morning. Both are rather spotted, but it is amazing that they have survived. Also think I have one of Francis Boake Carter somewhere. The ones of Mary were taken in Dublin. I can scan these and print you a copy. Do you want to send me your address and I will mail to you? You might want to email me directly at email@example.com and not post your address on the web!
The chart lists these children of Francis Boake Carter and Mary: (Some time later when I can find it I can send you the children of the first marriage.):
Frances (Fanny) married Morney Coppin and my aunts knew some of their descendants
Kate (Kitty) married (1) Thomas Stubbs and (2)Denis Browne chart lists children ??
Abigail (known as Bee) married Elliot Sanderson Browne. My mother knew them, called them Auntie Bee and Uncle Sandy. no children. I have photos of them.
Nellie m. Mr. Roe - several children
Jennie (Jenny?) married Sir George Kellner
Harold Marlborough married Bessie Stubbs
and had Francis Boake (unmarried) and Tom, who came to America at some point and had Harold, about whom I know nothing, and Sheelah who was living in the State of Washington at some point and was, I think, a librarian - one of my aunts was in contact with her.
and then we have your Alfred, listed with question marks about wife and children I suppose because he emigrated and the family lost track, and a note of at least one other chilld as well. The Francis Boake Carter letter spoke of "sons" emigrating to Australia.
I'll send this on to you and will see what else I can find. If you will be patient as I get this house sorted out I think I have quite a lot of information. I don't know the emigration year but will lfind the letter mentioning it and that may help. I will have to go back into old records to find it but yes, I do have the information on Franncis' parents somewhere and poarchment copies of old wills, etc. I think I may have a little on Mary as well. I believe that a lot of the old Irish records burned a number of years ago but I think we can put together a lot on our family despite this, partly because the Quakers kept very good records and they were not kept in the place that burned.
It is wonderful to have found this family connection - I am so excited! My best to you, Anne Carter Mahaffey
