Cumbria, you may well know, is better known as the English Lake District from roughly Carlisle south to Lancaster. I have extracted the following Boak/Boake/Boke records from the transcribed Parish registers and have found about 3 different groups/families all living within about 20 miles of each other. Earliest so far is early 1600's but quite a lot from 1720 to 1804. Even today there are more Boaks living around Cumbria than anywhere else in the UK. I also found a reference to a Robert Boak who sailed to Aukland. I know of a Steve Boak in Perth W.A. who runs a website called Mad Scientist's Lair - he may have a better insight into the Australian site of the family. I need to fill in some big gaps from 1800 to 1900 and to try and trace records of those who emigrated to US and Australia/ N.Z> Hope this is of help regards Ken Boak (London) b.1965 Below is the complete set of references.
