Hi Tami,
I would love to have additional information on Mary Boatman and her children.
I'm finding several of the same surnames running through the Boatman's that run through my Brooks line...It's amazing how intertwined our East Tennessee families were.I noted that Isaac Boatman married Elizabeth Helton circa 1843.
Is Mary Boatman's father (who married Joseph Brooks) Ezekial Boatman?Do you know where Mary and Joseph Brooks were in 1870 and onward?
I'm also chasing information on Nancy Boatman who married Alexander Helton.Any information on these folks would be helpful.
Because we are "cut from the same cloth," I offer the following information regarding the Brooks.
Charles and Thomas Brooks are enumerated on the 1830 and 1840 census in Grainger County, TN.Charles Brooks married Jane Harris in 1808, Jefferson County, TN.Appearances are that Charles and Jane had the following children:
John Brooks (born NC)
(born in TN)
William Brooks
Nathan Brooks
Abba Brooks
James Brooks
Joseph Brooks
Thomas P. Brooks
I am descended from Nathan Brooks, Confederate CW, died in Mississippi after living past 100 years old.Nathan's brother, Thomas (who married Mary Jane Holt), fought with the North.Appears to be a fractured family, brother-against-brother situation.A descendant of Thomas P. says Nathan and Thomas were both at Murfreesboro--scene of a large battle. As further indications of the fracture, Nathan left Tennessee and settled in Mississippi.
At this point, I have more questions than answers.I'm greatful for your reply. Many thanks!Karen
