I am looking for any information on my great great grandparents Jan (John) VAN BORK/VAN BOCK and Mary O'GRADY, or any of their descendants. I have been told they were both immigrants - I think Mary was from England and I'm unsure where Jan was from. They married in Sydney, Australia in 1872. There are many variants to Jans name given in online marriage records, including: SURNAME GIVEN NAME BOCK Jan Va BOCK Jan Van VAN BOCK Jan VANBOCK Jan I've then managed to find several births for a John and Mary VAN BORK, all in Sydney. I know these are my great, great grandparents, so it appears Jan anglicised his name. All children's surnames are listed as VAN BORK. Mary S. born 1875 John born 1873 Thomas born 1877 Ellen Honora born 1879 Alice born 1882 Henry born 1884 Rose E. born 1886 Walter born 1889 Henry VAN BORK was my great granfather and was known as Henry BOURK, which is the family name today. (His marriage certificate seems to be listed in the name of BOURKE, but I think that is a transcription error). I'm unsure what variants of the surname any other branches of the family may have used. If anyone has any further information could you please contact me? Thanks, Kerry Notify Administrator about this message?
