The 1880 census for Sarah A. Decker who was living with her son Harry in Wright Ottawa Michigan gives her father's birthplace as Rhode Island and her mother's as Connecticut.

This makes perfect sence since the first Bodfish settled in Massachusetts in 1634/35. His name was Robert.

I could not find anything on James. The only Bodfish in Rhode Island moved there in the 1800s from Falmouth, MA.
One possible family of Bodfish in Falmouth to search would be that of William and Lois Nye Bodfish who married in 1783/84 and had children in the correct time period as James' parents. If you can link James to this family their history is given in the Nye genealogy. Not only was Lois a Nye but William's grandmother was a Nye. Whether or not James belongs to these parents his ancestry is certainly linked to the Bodfish family of Barnstable County Massaschussets.

Hope this helps.

Marian Natale
