A couple of minor corrections to the above post, the Bodkins settled in Maryland circa (about) 1650 is what I shouild have said. I also have recalled since my post yesterday that the notorious Bodkin pirate's first name I think was Francis not Franklin as I stated. I have not run across any information about Francis other than a causal mention in several Irish Name books that mention the Bodkin name. In addition to the Bodkin Cove, Bodkin Island, Bodkin Elementary School, Bodkin Marina, there was once was a Bodkin Light House In Ann Arundel County according to a local historian I spoke with. I do no know the true origin of any of these things, local people told me that Bodkin's Cove was named for pirates, hence I wonder3ed if there was a conmnection with Francis. Does anybody know anything about any of this?
