I've never seen any actual proof that Richard and Elizabeth were ever in Ireland.
My personal thoughts are that he descends from a group that most likely came over in the 1650's and after a period in MD moved to PA and then dropped down into VA which was a common migration pattern for the Irish at that time. Many of the families that settled on the Bullpasture River area were from Lancaster and Chester Co.'s PA and there were Bodkin in Lancaster mid 1700's that could account for his relatives.

Have you ever found anything to indicate John's b. 1740 wife Mary's maiden name? Do you have a copy of John's Will? I'd like to have it.
