alexander mcquain was my great great great great grandfather. he was born in scotland in l756 and died in the pendleton co. va. in l825. he came to america about 1773. He served the colonies in the american revolution in captain peter hull's company of the 2nd batallion of the augusta militia.
he was at yorktown, va for cornwallis' surrender and received 2 guns. a mess pot and samall amount of cash as his share of the loot from the british army.
he married mary bodkin about 1782 and they settled in pendleton co. va.
they had 12 children.
Mary's parents were hugh bodkin and hester farmer and they had ll children.
hugh bodkin, born abt. l736 in northern ireland; died 1801 in knox co. TN. He was the son of Richard Bodkin,Sr. and Elizbeth
_______. He married Hester Farmer bef. l761
in Augusta Co. VA.
Hester Farmer, born l740 in Augusta Co. Va;
died abt.1801 in knox Co. TN. She was the daughter of Thomas Farmer.
Hugh was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
