The area (Bullpasture River, now Highland Co.) in VA where Richard Sr. 1700-???? was living in 1743 is today known for cattle and sheep. Hay is grown for feed. It is one of the only counties in VA with no cash crop. He moved his family north in 1763 to the Black Thorne (Pendleton Co. WV) which today is known for timber. One of his land records mentions a "mill and barracks" but I haven't been able to get any further details. I have seen a reference to one of the familes on the Bullpasture River having a contract to sell cattle during the Rev War.
Hope this helps.
