Rod,

Yes, Pendleton Co. VA and WV is the same county. WV was formed around the time of the Civil War from VA. One problem that always faces a genealogist is whether to record an ancestor's whereabouts in the "actual" vs. the "current" county. As the population expanded in each developing state county lines were redrawn. You could easily find someone that lived in two or even three different counties over their lifetime without leaving their front porch and in the case of VA vs. WV even two different states.
