Bodkin Family Genealogy Forum

I have been doing research for nearly 30 years on the occurence of the Bodkin surname in Northern Ireland. I have compiled several Bodkin family trees some of which seem to have disappeared. A number of these I have found to have emigrated to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the States especially during the Potato Famine period. Quite often these emigrants write a family history or have a family bible which ties in their ancestors to Northern Ireland. My particular tree is centred around the towns of Moneymore and Draperstown in Co Londonderry. Hopefully with further contact with other Bodkin descendants we can exchange information for mutual self benefit. The earliest Bodkin I found in the County Londonderry is a James Bodkin circa 1610 who came across during the Ulster Plantation and built the first stone houses in Moneymore. Other Bodkin's including one of my ancestors (William Bodkin) sailed from Londonderry to Philadelphia on the ship Mohongo in 1867. I am very keen to track down his family. I look forward hearing from you and others.
Regards Alistair Bodkin
