Dear Joyce,
I am also descended from the Bodkins of Gibson County, TN through my mother's side of the family.
I believe William S. Bodkin, b. ca 1765 Ireland d 1844 Gibson County, was the father of John Bodkin. William S Bodkin appears in the 1800 census of Mecklenburg County NC with one male child under 10 years, two male children 10 to 16 years and three female children under 10. In Gibson County TN records of 1844 James
Bodkin (my direct ancestor) is shown as the administrator for William S Bodkin, deceased.
I believe James and John were brothers.
William S Bodkin apparently came from Ireland about 1790, but I don't know which part, probably N. Ireland.
Regards
Vernon Trail
