Philllip Ludwig Boehm entered the Latin school at Hanau-on-the-Main in March 1665, then entered the University of Marburg in 1666. He was hired as the Dutch schoolmaster in Hanau, then as the minister to the Reformed congregation in Hochstadt.

His career was quite stormy since he spoke out against public officials. In August, 1682, on of the members of the village board complained that Boehm had scolded him publicly from the pulpit for allowing his son to haul earth during prayer meeting. Boehm was reprimanded by the Consistory. He was reprimanded again in August, 1864, for running through the vineyards with a gun hunting game. In September, 1684, Boehm had been asked during conversation why ministers nowadays rode beautiful horses, he sarcastically replied that the great Lords had made all the asses their servants so ministers were compelled to take horses. The noblemen were not amused by his comment and he was suspended from office for four weeks. He was suspended in 1686 because he preached a sermon against heretics and insinuated that the Consistory was not doing its duty. On another occasion, he again attacked village officials, calling one of them a spider who sucked poison out of his sermons.

After his third suspension, the Consistory transferred him to Kesselstadt in 1688. He was transferred back to Hochstadt in 1691 at the request of the congregation there. While there, he married a second time. The union was not a happy one and Boehm was cited twice by the Consistory because of his domestic troubles. He was transferred to Rumpenheim-on-the-Main in January, 1701. Officers of the congregation complaints against him in October, 1708, and he was transferred to Wachenbuchen in February, 1709.

He developed cataracts in both eyes in 1712. After surgery on his right eye in 1713, he developed a severe illness and was no longer able to work. He retired and received a pension until his death.
