I am looking for leads to my father's family in Germany. I am particulary interested in finding information about my great grandfather Markus von Aspern and my great grandmother Katherine (Catherinem Catharina) Boeseh/Bosch etc... and their children.
My grandfather was Max von Aspern. His wife was Allie Bell Gilchrist. They lived in Fort Edward and Utica, New York.
Max's father (according to his social security application) was Markus von Aspern and his mother was Catherine Boeseh. Of course the spelling could be Boesch or Boeseh, or as it is spelled on the Marriage lic for Max and Allie, Bosch or any number of other variations.
Max's came from Itzehoe, Germany. I just visited there and obtained his birth certificate and those of some of his siblings. On this certificate his father is Marcus Michael von Aspern and his mother is Catharina Bosch (with the two little dots over the O. )
Max was born 27 May 1886 according to his birth certificate. (Note: beware of other sources...according to his declaration of intention to become a citzen he was born on 23 May 1886. However, in that same document he tells us it is 1904 and he is 25 years old.
That means he would have been born in 1879.
If he had been born in 1886 he would only have been 18 years old in 1904. However, it states on his Social Security Application and his death certificate that he was born 26 May 1886.) I digress.
Max had 9 siblings whom, I think, all remained in Germany until at least World War II. My father remembers his father (Max) getting letters from one of the sisters after the war.
Catharina Bosch and Marcus Michael von Aspern had the following children:
Anna b: about 1876
Christina b: abt 1878 married name STUDT
John b: about 1880
Karl b: about 1882
Marie born abt 1884 married name KROGER
Max b: 1886 married Allie Bell Gilchrist
Cacilie Margarethea Anna b: 1888
Gertrud b: abt 1890 married name BARGMANN
Kathe b: abt 1892 married name MOLLER
Emma Catharina b: 1893 married name 1. HAUSCHILDT 2. WESTPHAL died: 1962.
All children were born in or near the Itzehoe, Germany area. Not too far from Hamburg.
Can anyone help me with this family. I would like to find out more about my father's family in Germany, and possibly connect with cousins.
