Andrew Bohnert was my Great Grandfather. The record I have shows his name as Andreas, probably changed when he came to America. The obituary shows his name as Andrew.
Andrew b.5 Jan 1828 in Marienthal, Rhemish Bavaria, Germany, d.28 Jan 1911, Jewell, KS.Married Elizabeth Wenz (or Wentz, date unknown. He is burried in the Wallace Cemetery, Jewell, KS.
Andrew's mother was Catherine Bohnert, b. 16 Jan 1802 in Marienthal, Rhemish Bavaria, Germany, d. 29 Jul 1882, Loudonville, OH.
Andrew's father is unknown.
Catherine Bohnert's father was Johann Phillip Bohnert and her mother was Catherine Schneider.
Andrew and Elizabeth had eight children; Philip, Katherine, Phoebe, Frederick, Charles, Andrew A., Caroline, Sarah Elizabeth. All were born in Loudonville, OH between 1856 and 1873
Andrew A. was my grandfather. He married Ida Alice Deardorff. They had one son, Monroe Andrew Bohnert, my father.
Elizabeth Wentz was b.6 Apr 1832 in Marienthal, Germany, d.21 Jul 1892, Jewell, KS; burried in Wallace Cemetery, Jewell, KS.
Elizabeth's father was Lewis Wentz (or Ludwig Wentz), b.1 Apr 1804, d.--Feb 1880.A note I have says the family name was later changed to Vance. He married Phillipine Wenz. Ludwig's father was Philip; his mother's name was Anne Marie.Phillipine's father was Peter Wenz; her mother's name was Catherine.I don't have any other information on last names or dates for these people.
Andrew and Elizabeth apparently settled in OH.We have no record of earlier residences or the ship on which they travelled to America.I have a note from recollections of my grandmother that they left OH in April of 1885 and settled in Jewell, KS.And yes, Andrew was a farmer in Jewell.
I've attempted to find records from Germany, without success.
The Bohnert's and the Wentz's apparently were close families in Germany and in America.I believe my grandmother told me they came to America together.
If you can help me fill in information regarding the Wentz's, I would appreciate it.
