Hi Don
When I was starting in research, I thought your William was my ancestor and got very confused. It turns out my William died at some point between the 1851 and 1861 census, leaving his widow Ann.On the 1851 cr, my William, married to Ann is shown with a birthplace of Lumly in 1807.I've seen his marriage record to Ann Maddison in 1832 in Bishopwearmouth, Durham which doesn't give an age or a father! I haven't yet got his death certificate but I'm hoping it'll turn up from a 3-year search I'm having done.
My friend Dennis Bolam, whose postings you'll see on the Bolam forum, has seen the baptism record for William, son of Luke Bolam and Margaret Jop(b)ling. It says that William was born in Great Lumley, baptised in Chester le Street.I'm as confident as I can be that this is my William.
I would suggest that you contact Dennis. We haven't yet managed to link our Bolam trees but he has researched lots Bolams in the Durham area and may well not only have records for your William, but actually have a link to you.It may be that our Williams are cousins, I haven't managed to go that far back.
Good luck with your research
Best Wishes
Judith
