Hi,
I am looking for Jacob Bonhotal who would have arrived in the United States about 1850 from France. He married Rose Jacquot in Boston Massachusetts after 1850, and according to her obituary she was left a widow in 1858 with three children. She married Amos Valleran in 1864 in LaCrosse Wisconsin and had three children with him, Jennie, Josephine and Eugene. However, in December 1861, in Tama County Iowa Rose and Jacob's son Lewis was adopted by Samuel J. Lewis. It states Lewis was about ten months old and on the census records is shown as James F. and later as Frank Lewis. Another paper filed in June 1862 shows the adoption of her daughter Jane, age 3, by Samuel J. Lewis. It states "the father abandoned said child and absconded to parts unknown". Rose is a sister to my gggrandmother Catherine Pauline Jacquot Sebille. Rose's dates do not gibe and I am wanting to know the rest of the story. The son came to see his mother in Conway Iowa about 1882 when by accident he learned of her whereabouts. Rose died in 1920. Her obituary states she is survived by one daughter Jane Moat? of Cedar Rapids Iowa and daughter Josephine Litteer of Conway. Thank you. Joanne Walker
