I found the following description of the Bonilla family origin and crest:

Bonilla.- Linaje castellano, extendido por toda la península con la Reconquista. Una ramna pasó a América. Traen por armas:
Escudo cuartelado, 1º y 4º de oro, una cruz de gules floreteada y hueca; y 2º y 3º de gules, un león rampante de oro. Bordura de oro
con ocho aspas de gules.

Otros traen: Escudo partido, 1º de oro, una escala de azur; y 2º de sinople, siete bezantes de plata puestos 2, 2, 2 y 1.

These heraldic terms are not easily translated, but I can try if needed.
