My name is Sarah Barnes. My great-grandmother's mother was named Charlotte Bonnieman (I am unable to find her exact birth/death dates right now, but I can easily get them. I think she died in the late 19teens, since I know my grandfather remembers her and he was born in 1908). I am trying to find out about her family history, and from the messages on this website, it appears that the name Bonnieman is not too common, so it is likely that we are all searching for information on the same family. I know a little about Charlotte's history from talking to my grandpa, her grandson.
As far as I can remember my grandfather saying, Charlotte came to America from Scotland with her husband, my great-grandmother's father, James Taylor Auchinachie.
They had only one child, my great-grandmother, Jean Isabella. She had two children, My grandpa Harold, and his sister, Flora. Etc. Etc.
It seems that in my family, the history of the male linneage has been preserved a little better than that of the female ancestry. I'm hoping to find out about my whole Scottish heritage, including the history of the women.
I know that my grandfather has said that Charlotte Bonnieman worked as the "head" of housekeeping in a very large Scottish castle before she came here. I could probably find out where that was if it would be of any help to you. I also have at least one picture of her, and I'm sure my grandpa has a few more.
I live in La Verne, California (Southern California). I am 27 years old. My grandpa (92 years) lives not far away in San Bernardino, CA, where his mother and grandparents (Charlotte and James) are all buried.
I hope that you and I might be able to piece together some part of this Bonnieman puzzle. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
