George J. Books (Buch, Book, Buck, Bucks) was born between 1800-1803 in Pennsylvania. He married Margaret and moved near the Dayton, Ohio area. He was a carpenter by trade. They lived in Ohio for the births of the following children:

Elizabeth b. bet. 1825-1829, died 1901 in Indiana. Married Solomon Carpenter. Known children: Charles M., Stephen

Susannah b. abt. 1833 Ohio

Jacob E. b. February 22, 1836 near Dayton, Ohio, d. February 19, 1905, Elkhart, Indiana. Married Mary Reese September 9, 1861 in Elkhart Co. Children: Sarah, William H., Nathan, Charles S. Hugh E., Frank, Margaret M., Otto, Thomas, Arthur, Everett.

Margaret b. 1838. Married Jacob Lear (Leer) June 26, 1862 Elkhart Co.

George J. Jr. b. December 15, 1840 near Dayton, Ohio, d. July 1, 1906, Goshen, Elkhart Co. Married Mary A. Potts September 14, 1865 in Elkhart Co. Known children: William A., Elizabeth

David Daniel b. June 1842 Ohio, d. February 8, 1924 in Dunn Co, WI. Married Lucinda Whitehead Simpson November 8, 1863 in Goshen, Elkhart Co. Known children: William H., Ida, Milton, Daniel, Nettie, Charles Clinton, Frank, Ollie

Henry Books b. 1844 Ohio, d. November 26, 1905 in Elkhart Co. Married Susan Lear (Leer). Known Children: Alonzo, Nelson

Sarah Books b. 1845 Ohio. Married Henry Weed October 28, 1867, Elkhart Co.

Daniel Books b. 1848 Ohio.

It is thought that George J. Books, Sr. married Anna Kinsey in Elkhart Co. in 1868 after the death of his wife Margaret.

Members of the family were of the "Dunkard" or Church of the Brethren faith.
