Body of Joseph Book Brought Here From Marshalltown. Funeral Held at Iron Hill.
The body of Joseph E. Book, a former resident of Jackson County, was brought here from Marshalltown Saturday and the funeral service was held Sunday from the East Iron Hill Church.
Mr. Book was born Dec. 13, 1829, in Mercer County, PA. In the year 1850 he was married to Miss Emily Humphrey. Six years later they came to Jackson County, Iowa, settling on a farm near Iron Hill. Later they moved to Nashville, Iowa where they resided for many years. Mrs. Book passed away seven years ago, since which time Mr. Book has made his home among his children with the exception of the last few months which he spent at the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown.
He served during the Civil War, being a member of Co. B, 2nd Iowa Infantry.
Four sons and four daughters survive to mourn the memory of a loving father. They are: Mrs. Stephen Point of Clinton, Mrs. Rebecca Chichester of Maquoketa, John of Fortisque, Mo., Joe of Ft. Pierre, S.D., Bert of Clinton, and George of Davenport. All the children with the exception of Joe and John were in attendance at the funeral.
