LA. brothers/ Philip & William Book

SOS!
Looking for information on William (dob 1809) & Philip Book (dob 1803), brothers, born in Avoyelles Parish, LA. Stayed in the same general vicinity of Caldwell & Catahoula Parish. Can't find 1850 census for either of them. Between the 2 of them they produced a number of offspring that I'm unable to identify to which brother they belong to - and no records of earlier spouses found at this time to match with the unknown children and children in question. If anyone has information on either of these brothers during the earlier years I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks!
Marla BW

PS By the 1850's there were a lot of Book men out there but I can't find any in the 1850 censuses except 2 minors in a relatives home. This puzzles me so if anyone knows why please let me know.
