Bope Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Gary. I am not sure I can help you with information about Abraham, but I thought I would share my current research thread. I am researching cabinetmakers active in Fairfield County Ohio prior to 1850. As you know Jacob was a prominent cabinetmaker and carpenter. I have been trying to research Abraham to see if he may also have been a cabinet maker. If you have any information regarding Abraham's vocation I would appreciate knowing. I suspect the trouble you artew having going beyond Abraham Bope is that the spelling of the family's last name may have changed when they moved to Ohio. I have some evidence to suggest the family name when they lived in Virginia may have been Boss or Pope. Boss seems likely given the 18th and early 19th century custom of forming double ss like a "p" when they were written in script. I also have some evidence to suggest that Abraham may have operated a tavern in the Monticello area of Fairfield County as well as owned other land in the Millersport area. If you have anything that confirms that, I would appreciate knowing.
