Boswell - Gambrel connections
I have encountered several different records suggesting an extended relationship between the Gambrel's and the Boswell's
First is the marriage between John Boswell and Caty Gambrel.I am not certain where this took place, but possibly in Charles Co MD, or maybe even somewhere in North Carolina.Somewhere on this forum is a query suggesting they were married in 1797.William Boswell was born to this couple in Rowan Co NC in 1802.They had moved to Hamilton Co OH by 1814.
Second is the will ofCharles Boswell in Orange Co VA in 1830.One of the appraisers of Charles' estate was Walter Gambrel.
Third is the will of Walter Gambrel in Sumter Co AL in 1840.It was witnessed by William Boswell.
I am trying to determine if Walter and Caty might be brother and sister.
To further confuse the issue, Caty's mother was Ann Milstead of Charles Co MD.There were numerous Boswells living there in the late colonial period (and a few Gambrills).
Ann Milstead Gambrel's grand-daughter stated in a letter (written in 1880s) that her grand parents were married in Loudoun Co VA.
So did her daughter marry a Port Tobacco Boswell, or one of the other branches of the Boswell family?
Was William Boswell of Sumter Co AL a son of Charles Boswell of Orange Co VA?
Was Charles Boswell originally from Port Tobacco?
Was Charles Boswell a close relative of John Boswell who married Caty?
Was Caty a sister to Walter Gambrel?
Any thoughts or clues?
