Hi Deborah, I went over your e-mails and tried to gather your information (challenging to put together,I'm not sure I'm totally accurate) then I compared it to some of mine in an attempt to find the common ancestor. Here is what I came up with:
Yours:Mine:
Thomas Bourke(1825/35?-?)Francis Bourke(1826/30?-1901)
m.Ellen McGowan in(1850-60?) m. Margaret Freeny in 1861
your ggg grandfathermy gg grandfather
**Tom could be poss. brother/cousin to Frank.Do you have Tom's father? He could be our connecting relative. Also,I could not find a Thomas Bourke m. to Ellen McGowan (When were they married?)anywhere on bohola marriage records or other websites. But, I did see Thomas and Ellen as parents to your Patrick,Ellen and Thomas (Did you notice Ellen and Thomas are Both listed with the "SAME" baptism date of July,8,1859!) Hard to have two children baptised on same day.Could your relative be Patt Bourke m. Mary McGowan Feb.16,1863,Bohola married just 2 years after my Francis married? Or, do you have Thomas's civil and Parish marriage records?Do you have any of their birth dates? I have civil and parish marriage records of my relatives to confirm marriages and dates(and some births). We can cross reference the witnesses for marriages and sponsors for births to check for possible connections. I'm fairly sure Your Thomas Bourke (m. Ellen McGowan) and Patrick Bourke (m.Ann McGowan) are probably brothers. They are listed from the same land. I cannot find Derrycar/Derrycahir, on the map. Do you know if it near Carrowntleva, Bohola, Mayo? I'm sure it is, I just haven't located it yet.

I am fairly certain who Francis's father is. If you come up with the same name (for Thomas), we will know that is the connection. After looking at the records I am pretty sure we have a family connection. The task is finding the relative and confirming it. I am trying to take my Bourke/Burke line as far back as I can (hopefully to the de Burgho's). I think it is your line as well.
This is long and full of info and questions. I appreciate your responses. I think these will benefit both of our researches. I also think we may have found some extended family in each other.
Cead mile Failte romhat. (A hundred thousand welcomes to you)to the family.
Sincerely,
Paula
