Hi. One of my many Bermondsey based Boutcher relations was Charles Henry Boutcher, born Jan. 1910. His mother was called Maud and his father was also called Charles. Charles Henry had siblings named Ivy (b. 1912); Gladys (b. 1915); Violet (b. 1918) and Arthur (b. 1922). Do you think that this is the same person as your grandfather?

If so, I don't think he is connected with the Boutcher school. As I understand it (and I'm happy to be wrong!) there were 2 Boutcher families living in Bermondsey in the mid to late 19 Century. A family of Boutchers originating from Devon who were a wealthy family of tanners; it was one of these that founded the school. Then there were my family who were poor but 'respectable' blacksmiths, engineers and the like. My Charles Henry was an offshoot of this family. His father was a riveter and boiler maker.

I don't know if this helps...
