My father was William Boutcher. His father was John Henry Boutcher. John H Boutcher was married first time it appears to Clara Dobbs(we only knew the name of his first children and went from there). Then for reasons unknown he married my grandmother(Buckland).
John H Boutcher and Clara had 3 children. One Reginald, Henry and a daughter.
We did not know all this until after my dad died (aged 61) and so was unable to ask. But he had never spoke about it.
We did not know anything of my dad's half brothers and sister.
When John H Boutcher married my grandmother they had my dad, and we believe a daughter who died a baby and also another daughter who died aged around 43.
John Henry Boutcher is my sister, brother and I grandfather although we never met him. Julia Emma (Hutchinson)Howe was married to John Boutcher (your gr gr gr gr grandfather??). She was the daughter of Henry Hutchinson Howe (the actor). His parents were Quakers, so to enable him to become an actor, he had to change his name from Hutchinson to Howe.(very confusing). His name appears in many plays in London alongside Henry Irving.
In Broadclyst in Devon, in the churchyard, there is many tombstones with the name Boutcher on them which we believe is where the family originated from.
It sounds as if your family may be connected.
John H Boutcher was a bit of an old rogue, but he was well known for copying Buffalo Bill here in Bournemouth and did many shows with horses and Indians and showed films. He dressed as buffalow bill and looked just like him. But he never had any money. He was still riding his bicycle when he was very old. He was buried in a cemetary in bournemouth in an unmarked grave.
