I purchased the subject undated studio portrait of a middle-aged man taken by A. R. Gould's, Carrollton, OH. It is identified on the back of the mount:
I believe this individual is the Henry Bower who appears in Public Member Trees posted on ancestry.com. Born 3 Jun 1806 in Washington, MD, died 9 Mar 1888 in Bowerston, Harrison Co., OH, he was the son of Barnhart Bower (1765-1844) and Maria Elizabeth Minnich (1766-1847). Henry, a farmer, married Susanna/Susan Bea Lawver (1806-1865). The family is listed in the 1850, 1860, and 1880 Census data for Monroe Township, Bowerston village, Harrison Co., OH. Henry and Susanna had many children, including Nancy J. Bower, born Apr 1848 in OH, died 7 Jun 1901 in Pontiac, IL. In Apr 1870, Nancy married Moses Cairns (1847-1930). One of their children was Mahala Florence Cairns, born 21 Oct 1876 (or 1874) in Bowerston, OH.
