Walter Wells Bowman
Back in 1888 the Western Football (soccer) Association of Ontario, Canada sent a team to Britain on tour. One of the members of that team was Walter Wells Bowman. He seems to have been born on August 11, 1870 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.Walter Bowman was a very good player who played for Berlin Rangers in Canada and he was selected to go back to Britain on tour in 1891 with a combined Canadian-American team. But this time he stayed in Britain and in 1892 became the first player from outside of the British Isles to play in England's prestigious Football League, when he played for Accrington.
When the 1888 team held a reunion in 1929, the Kitchener Daily Record, noted that Walter Bowman (who did not attend) was living in Butte, Montana.
Walter Bowman was the son of Daniel and Wilhelmina Bowman. The family genealogist has been able to trace all the family with the exception of Walter Wells Bowman, who may well have died in Butte. Can anyone shed any light on what happened to Walter Bowman, whose name appears in a number of soccer record books.
