Hi, Margaret. I remember the Sasser Store very well on old Hwy 51 South on the left as we drove to Bogue Chitto in Lincoln County. My maiden name is Bowman and my father was born on his grandparents farm in Moak's Creek/Bogue Chitto. They attended Moak's Creek Baptist Church. I still have a Rawls relative living in that area that I keep in touch with. (My great-grandmother was a Rawls.) We used to have a family joke about the Sasser store. You would go in, get what you needed, put it on the counter and one of the Sassers would say "and what else?" They could be intimidating - HA! I loved going down there. Thanks to Ancestry.Com I've connected with Judy Melton from someone from Tylertown on AC. I've yet to get a response from her e-mail. I understand she's working on a book fo the Bowman family. I had been stuck on my maiden line. What a thrill to get the Tylertown connection to Judy Melton in Florida. The Doctor is my forbear through his son Jesse. I've been able to go back 500 years on my mother's side and other lines but couldn't get far at all on Bowman which was very important to me. My Dad passed away last May. How I wish I could have told him he descended from a doctor! Everytime he went into a hospital to visit nurses and doctors would nod at him and say "Doctor." I've been with him when it happened! Here's hoping we can all go further back on our Bowman line thanks to others' hard work.
