Box Family Genealogy Forum

The spread of the Box family from Virginia across the country to California has been documented in a number of books by Wade, Akins and Swann. These books have attempted to summarize and merge the innumerable oral history accounts of individual families and the official records found in the censuses, the court records, newspapers and on the Web sources. In the process of using the broad strokes necessary to condense the massive amounts of material, errors were to be expected. However, the advent of computerized searches and the conversion of many records into a digital format has resulted in the recognition of some of these errors. As a result, much of the current genealogical research is in the nature of pruning twigs and branches that were put in the wrong places and grafting them to the appropriate limb. A common interest in distantly related lines of the Box family has led to a loose cooperative effort of Joyce Pruhs, Joe Fox, Verna Stone, and Jackie Peters, coupled with contributions of many other researchers to correct some of the errors that have been recognized.
