Here are more details on the confusion of Robert Boxes:

Robert Box, the elder (b. bef. 1707), a blacksmith married to Phillis of Delaware (1729), Virginia (1755), South Carolina (1769) and probably Greene Co. TN (1783). He signed his name on deeds in Delaware, Virginia and South Carolina.

Robert Box, Junr (b. abt 1734) (who was Elsie Box’s Senior), was the first Robert Box who was granted 150 acres on Rabon’s Creek in 1755; and was probably Robert Box, Sr. of 1790 census of Pendleton Co. SC. He was probably the son of Robert Box, the elder. He was the Robert Box who was son-in-law of James and Hester Williams and Mary Williams is considered his wife and widow (but there are conflicts with that). He made his mark “R” on a petition and several deeds in South Carolina

Robert Box, Jr. (b. abt. 1760) of Franklin Co. TN, was probably Robert Box, Jr of 1790 census of Pendleton Co. SC and probably the son of the Robert Box, Sr in the 1790 census of Pendelton Co. SC. Jane Goodwin was probably his second wife. He was listed as Robert Bax (Box) Sr. in the 1820 census of Franklin Co. TN and made his mark “X” on his will and on a deed in TN.

Robert Box (III) (b. 1789 in TN) was son of Robert and Jane Goodwin Box. He was listed in the 1820 census of Franklin Co. AL, 1830, 1840 and 1850 census of Hardeman Co. TN. We do not know his first wife but his second wife was Edny Harper Rose.

Robert Box (b. 1820 in AL) was son of Robert Box III and his first wife. He married Temperance Gray and would be the father of Sabra Jane Box and her sister, (Sarah Elizabeth) who married Mack Williams.

Elihugh Robert Box (b. 1844) son of Robert and Temperance Gray and the father of Mansel Box (b. 1869).

As you can see the terms Junr. and Sr. May change in a man’s life span as he starts out as a Jr and becomes a Sr. and I think that happened in the Robert Box line. In addition there were other Robert Boxes as cousins and the Robert Box (b. 1785) who married Patsy Mitchell was the son of Abraham and Catherine Lindley Box (he was often confused with the Robert Box (b. 1789).

Here are two links to help you:

Robert and Edney Rose Box:

There were other Robert Boxes who were sons of Edward Box and Joseph Box and probably Henry Box. Much of the above comes from Elsie Box’s research (it is her line). However, a group of genealogists have worked for over a year now on those early Box men and this is consistent with much of their findings.
