The possible Native American heritage of Rebecca Box Jones is still very much a puzzle....with a conflict between the oral history and the documentation we have. However, the documentation found in the censuses and land records strongly suggests Rebecca Box was the daughter of Abraham and Catherine Lindley Box and not either of the Edward Boxes who were captured by Indians. The Edward Box on the 1790 census of Pendleton Co. SC did have a daughter, Rebecca, who married John Weatherford.

Eventually, DNA data may give us insight that is missing now.
