John J Box of Tippah County, MS: Died 1920
Posted by: Shirley McKenzie (ID *****1420) Date: July 06, 2012 at 16:58:00
  of 2302

John J Box and wife, Mary Elizabeth (Cartwright) Box lived for most of their life in the southeast corner of Tippah County (per Federal Censuses). John J & Mary are together with their daughter, Sarah (age 13) in the 1900 census. In the 1910 census he is listed as a widower and living with Sarah only (age 23/24). By 1920, he is still in the same general area, but in his household is wife transcribed as Mary O, age 63. Born TX, Father Born MS, Mother Born TX. That would suggest that her father was born in MS, moved to TX where he met & married and they had at least one child - Mary. Also, considering her age, I speculate that she was likely a widow - maybe from the same area.
I believe the 'O' in Mary's name to be a transcription error. It appears that what was called an O beside her name was the bottom of the J of John's middle name. So we only know her as Mary.
Many words have been written about him, but I have been unable to find a single reference to her. I have searched MS Marriages on Ancestry.com, Genforum, and any 'Google' link I can find. No success.
Does anyone even have any family stories of John J's 2nd wife?
