There is documentation the family of Rebecca Box Jones believed she was Cherokee before later family members believed they were Choctaw.
Ruby Rebecca Blevins (AKA Patsy Montana, a country music star), was a great great grand daughter of Rebecca Box Jones. In her account of her Indian heritage that is found on page 16 of her autobiography/biography, Patsy Montana by Patsy Montana and Jane Frost, she indicates her mother told her that Rebecca Box was the daughter of a Cherokee princess and Sir Andrew Box and that Rebecca married Andrew Jones.
Ruby Rebecca Blevins was the daughter of Augusta Marion Blevins and Amanda Victoria Meeks. Amanda Meeks was the daughter of Jesse Littleton Meeks and Amanda Jones. Amanda Jones was the daughter of Willis Jones and Polly Butler. Willis Jones was the son of Andrew Jones and Rebecca Box.
Patsy Montana said she had always taken great pride in her Native American heritage and always thought she was part Cherokee and had bragged about that point for many years. However, her daughter Beverly's research of the family led her to believe she was really Choctaw.
Unfortunately she does not discuss her daughter's research.
There is no known documentation that supports her prior claim to be part Cherokee and there are several instances where the Choctaw authorities denied descendants of Rebecca Box Jones their applications for citizenship in the Choctaw Nation.
