William Boyes, Greenock Scotland c.1880
I have hit a brick wall. My great grandfather, John Boyes, was born in Greenock, Scotland, in Dec 1882. He was illegitimate but his father was listed as William Boyes (mason) and his mother as Hannah Stewart (servant).
Hannah was also mother to John's sisters - Annie and Mary (both illegitimate) who do not have a father listed and never adopted the name Boyes. When Hannah remarried in 1891 in Glasgow she was registered as a widow of William Boyes.
Was he dead? Was she saving face?
I have looked everywhere; I cannot find any information at all about William Boyes.
Does anyone know anything about this man?
