Exactly what I was curious about. One of my best friends as
a teenager was S. Boyette from Vivian, La.Almost 50yrs
later, I learned that my mother's best friend of many yrs,
was also from Vivian, La.Her married name was Boyd.To
compound the coincidence, I figured they had to be various
spellings of the same original surname.
But not only is Boyette an Americanized spelling. Bear in
mind that hundreds of Scottish and many Irish families had
representatives in France during the early years of Mary
Stuart. So it could be the Americanization of the French
version of the Scots/Irish Boyd.
