Boyett(e) Y-DNA Project
This is a message to let everyone know that a Boyett(e)
Y-DNA surname project has recently been established and
to encourage all users of this message board to
participate.Because it is a Y-DNA project, only males
can participate, but I would ask all female subscribers
to encourage their fathers, brothers, uncles, and male
cousins to take part. The project includes all males
bearing a variant of the Boyette surname, including,
but not limited to: Boyet, Boyett, Boyette, Boyt,
Boyte, Boytte, Boyat and Boyatt.
The purpose of the project is to explore several of the
issues that we as Boyett(e) researchers have
encountered in our genealogical research. For example,
do the bearers of the various surname variants have a
common descent, and if so how? Also, many (if not most
of us) in the US appear to be descended from Thomas Boyt(e) who appears in Nansemond County, Virginia in the late
1600's.But there record written record appears to
end, and it has proven extremely difficult to tie
Thomas to his place of origin.
The Project hopes to shed a bit of light on these
questions by comparing the Y-DNA of Boyett(e)
descendants in the various countries where our surname
appears. Please see the following link for additional
