Hello, again, Nancy Bogard Gardner,

I found my correspondance with Olinda S. Britton, Rt 2, Box 285 B, Moscow, Idaho 83843 regarding Rebecca Bogard and William Ice, Jr. In a letter to me dated February 23, 1981, she told me that on that day she had received "a notorized copy of a page of the marriage bonds of Monongalia, W.Va. There plain to see was William Ice married to Rebecca Bogard on September 15, 1805 and also as plain to see was her father's name, Cornelius Bogard."

September 15, 1805 was the date of the marriage bond. Glenn D. Lough states in the following shetch of William ("Indian Billy") Ice that William Ice, Jr. and Rebecca Bogard were married on Sep 20, 1805.

From Glenn D. Lough's "Now and Long Ago", page 388, is the following sketch in the chapter of "Revolutionary Soldiers buried in Mariion County.
"Ice, William ("Indian Billy") -- Served in militia, received pay at Pittsburg, 1775. Born 1725/1730, d. 1826/1830, buried Ice Cemetery, Barracksville, married (1) Mary Scott McMillan, married (2) Margaret Higginbotham, married (3), in 1803, Elizabeth Shreve. Children by three wives: Elizabeth, b. 1767. d. 1803, m. 1796 Peter Straight; Mary, m. Abraham Shreve; Sarah (Sally), m. Henry Yost; Eva, m. Sept. 26, 1804, Benjamin Shreve; Susannah, m. a Mr. Watson; Margaret (Peggy), m. Haden Bayles, daughter m. a Mr. Barnhouse; James, m. a Miss Burton, Thomas, d. after 1840, m. Drusilla _____; Rebecca; John, m. a Miss Shreve; William, Jr. m. Sept. 20, 1805, Rebecca Bogard (Bozarth?..); Benjamin S; Abraham, b. 1781, d. May 6, 1856, m. Aug 20, 1807, Polly Lewman. b. Oct 22, 1791;Isaac, m. Mary ______."

Since brothers John and Jonathan Bozorth / Bozarth were living on adjacent land grants in what was Monongalia Co, VA and is now the City of Fairmont, WV, Lough questioned the Bogard name. Cornelius was a Bogard. He was not related to John and Jonathan Bozorth / Bozarth.

Lough also had a brief shetch for Adam Ice. Can copy that for you, if you need it. I also have other information on the Ice family from "The West Virginia Heritage Encyclopedia". Volume II, edited and published by Jim Comstock, Richmond, WV, 1976.

Regards, VirJean Potter Bozarth
