Hello, Linda Bozarth-Goodell,

Brothers John Bozorth (c1747-1832)and Jonathan Bozorth (1754-1839), the sons of John Bozorth and Innocent Borden, were both born in Frederick County, VA before 1777. The legend of the two brothers coming over with Lafayette in 1777 is not true. Unfortunately, John Owen Bozorth, author of the 1777-1911 book, based the introduction of his book on flawed information he received from another source. The name of the father of Squire Bozorth was given in the book as Jonathan (the Revolutionary War soldier, who served from 1776 to 1779). However, Squire's father was actually John Bozorth, the son of Joseph Bozorth, the older brother of John and Jonathan.

John Owen Bozorth did a great job detailing the decendants of Squire Bozorth and Millie Hoard Willis; but information on the ancestors of Squire was badly flawed. I have made an in-depth study of Squire's various descendants. Would be willing to work with you, if you are interested. My husband was descended from Jonathan Bozorth, the Revolutionary War soldier, whose military record is in found in the National Archives. There is no record available for brother John.

VirJean Potter Bozarth
